Pine Labs P3P

Paid

An India-built payment protocol that lets AI agents complete UPI transactions on their own, within limits a user pre-approves. It combines UPI mandate rails (ReservePay/OTM) for reserved funds, a delegated-identity layer for verifiable agent identity and spend caps, and HTTP 402 as the machine-readable payment request. Live in production with Gullak; Vijay Sales in pilot. Enterprise integration; pricing on request.

Our take

Pine Labs' protocol for letting AI agents pay over UPI without a human tapping approve each time. The user scans a mandate once, sets limits, and can revoke later; agents debit reserved funds when conditions are met. Live with Gullak, Vijay Sales piloting. India-first and genuinely new, though RBI rules for agentic UPI are still unsettled.

Best for

Indian merchants and fintech builders who want agents to handle recurring or condition-based UPI payments under user-set limits.

Pros

  • First agentic UPI payment protocol built for India
  • User-set mandates with revoke and spend caps
  • Live in production, not just a demo
  • Built on existing UPI rails (ReservePay/OTM)

Cons

  • RBI rules for agentic UPI still being worked out
  • Enterprise integration; no self-serve or public pricing
  • Early — few live deployments so far

How it compares

Where Visa Intelligent Commerce and the Stripe/PayPal agent toolkits (in our catalog) target cards and global rails, P3P is built natively on UPI — the only one here aimed squarely at Indian agentic payments.

Full review

Pine Labs P3P is an Indian payment protocol that lets an AI agent carry out UPI transactions on a user's behalf, inside limits the user sets in advance. The user approves a mandate once by scanning a code in their UPI app, and can revoke it later; the agent then debits against reserved funds when its conditions are met.

It stitches together three pieces: UPI mandate rails (ReservePay/OTM) for the pre-authorised debit, a delegated-identity layer that gives each agent a verifiable identity with spend controls, and HTTP 402 as a machine-readable way to request payment. It is live in production with the digital-gold app Gullak, with Vijay Sales in a proof of concept. How RBI rules apply to agent-led UPI is still being worked out.
